For all you computer whiz’ out there, the abbreviation DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) which can be found in most Wi-Fi router settings, is inspired by the Korean DMZ. Standing as a symbol of the Korean War’s end, this zone is about 250 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide. As for fortification, the term ‘heavily fortified’ is an understatement. It stands as one of the most heavily guarded areas on the planet. An interesting fact is that a village of truce “P’anmunjom” is the only living space for humans within this area. The rest is inhabited by wildlife and vegetation, marking it as one of the most pure (untouched by human activity) areas on earth. How ironic that a Zone for peace, also meant peace for life outside of human constructs.
